Our horsebox insurance products offer true market value and don’t assume that it depreciates at a set rate each year. This means that should you lose your box, or have it stolen, our insurers will work with you to calculate the actual market value of your horsebox at the time of loss.
If you use your horsebox rarely and only for short distances, it's unfair to have to pay the same fees for your horsebox as someone who drives great distances with theirs. We offer discounts on your horsebox insurance policy for customers with annual mileages of under 10,000 miles.
Many customers come to us because they have been unable to find cover for an under 25 driver. At Towergate, we offer policies which will insure fully licensed drivers of 17+ years, both in their name and as named drivers on someone else’s horsebox insurance policy.
We can provide cover for theft and malicious damage for horseboxes of all sizes and values. To reduce the risk of theft, we encourage customers to take security precautions, such as fitting immobilisers, and regular safety checks. Please note that some insurers require security arrangements to validate horsebox insurance.
When you need to make a claim, we'll guide you through the process and get your claim settled as quickly as possible.
Additions to your horsebox will affect its value. Therefore, you need to tell us if you make any upgrades or changes to the set-up of the original box.
Horsebox insurance does not cover horses while in transit. However, this cover is usually included with your horse insurance. If you are in any doubt, please check with your horse insurance provider.
Your horsebox cover will most likely not insure you for driving other vehicles. You will need your own separate standard car insurance to cover you behind the wheel of other vehicles.
Horsebox insurance does not entitle you to a replacement horsebox should you be involved in an accident. However, our legal cover add-on may enable you to pursue a claim for the cost to hire a vehicle.
Yes, we can offer a no claim bonus protection policy.
Our horsebox policies tend to be 12-month policies. If you choose to cancel mid-term, you will still be required to pay off the remaining cost of your premium.
Your windscreen will be covered as part of your horsebox cover, but only on a fully comprehensive policy. Excesses may apply, dependent on insurer terms.
Yes. The standard excess is £100 for accidental damage and for fire and theft. However, these could change depending on your requirements. Your excesses will also be explained to you at the point of quotation, so if you have any questions, please do ask. Please ensure that you read your policy summary and schedule.
Your personal effects will not be covered on this policy. Please speak to an adviser for information on what cover can be provided for your personal effects.
Your personal effects are your property that will be kept inside your horsebox. For example, your horse tack.
If you would prefer to spread the cost of your horsebox insurance policy, you have the option of setting up a Direct Debit to pay your premium in equal monthly instalments through our preferred provider, Premium Credit Limited (PCL).
To find out more about PCL and direct debit payments, select Direct Debit.
To understand more about how PCL work together with Towergate, please read our Regulatory Information.
We have provided a summary of the key features of the policy, above. For details of the terms and conditions applicable, please refer to the insurance product information document and policy wording, which are available during the quotation process.
