Settling Into Your New Park Home Community

1. Introduce yourself

Some neighbours may come and say hello if they see you moving in, and this is a great way to start to meet some new faces – but others may not want to intrude whilst you’re busy unpacking and moving your belongings. In the first week, it’d be a good to knock on the doors of your immediate neighbours and introduce yourself, this will make the perfect first impression and get any awkwardness out of the way.

2. Join a club

If you’re keen to meet new people, your new park may have some already existing clubs that you could join, but if not, you can ask your neighbours if there’s any clubs that you can join close by to your park or you could start a group yourself such as walking or a book club. This is a really great way of meeting new people and sets you up with an evening or couple of hours a week of socialising in your new area whilst starting up a new hobby at the same time.

3. Bake and share

If you love to bake but can’t eat all the produce yourself, you could bake for your neighbours - you’ll be their favourite resident in no-time!

4. Don't be afraid to ask

If there’s someone you find a connection with, or if you see others congregating together, don’t be afraid to ask whether you can join in or if that person would like to come around for a cup of tea. New friendships take effort from both sides and being new will always leave you at a disadvantage, so make sure you reach out to people and express interest in getting involved. People are friendly, especially in a park home community.

5. Lend a hand and ask for help

A great way to get involved in your community is to help your fellow park home members if you see that they need it, whether it be helping to mow their grass if they cannot do it themselves or asking for help if there’s something you need an extra hand for. This creates an amazing support network and can really help to make you feel safe and included in your new neighbourhood.

6. Use social media

If you are more reserved, then you may be more comfortable reaching out to communities online. Facebook groups can be very popular, and quite regularly towns will have a group to keep residents updated on everything from bin day to clubs and events. This could be a really great way for you to see what is going on in your new area that you may be interested in getting involved in, or it may just be helpful for keeping up to date with what’s going on in your town or for meeting new people online.
