Is Cloud computing right for your small business? Our info-graphic looks at the what, why and how of Cloud computing and how UK SMEs benefits from this technology.
In the simplest terms the cloud refers to a network of servers, and each server has a different function. Some are designed to run applications, such as Adobe Photoshop, which users no longer purchase in physical form but instead pay a subscription fee to gain access to.
Other servers in the cloud network are responsible for storing data - this is probably the way you use the cloud most often without even realising. For example, when you take a photograph on a smartphone it is typically stored on the internal memory of the phone. However, when it is uploaded onto a social media platform you are storing it in the cloud.
Many businesses choose to use the cloud for a variety of reasons including:
Cost reduction - Without the need for expensive, high-powered computers the costs of keeping data and documents safe can be reduced.
Mobility - Using the cloud makes documents accessible remotely which means employees can work anywhere and still access everything they need.
Increased capacity - Virtually unlimited storage capabilities.
Greener - Cloud services can eliminate the need for physical servers and software disks.
